Meverine SR 200mg Capsule is a sustained-release (SR) oral gastrointestinal medicine used to treat stomach cramps and chronic bowel irritation. It contains a higher dose of Mebeverine Hydrochloride (200mg) formulated inside a specialized capsule that slowly releases the medicine into your system over several hours. It acts as a direct-acting antispasmodic on the smooth muscles of the gut. By continuously relaxing these muscles and stopping painful spasms, it provides all-day relief from severe digestive discomfort without interfering with the normal movement of your intestines.
Continuous Relief of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): Prescribed to manage ongoing symptoms of IBS, including painful abdominal cramps, severe bloating, persistent gas, and irregular bowel habits (such as alternating diarrhea and constipation).
Management of Chronic Bowel Spasms: Used to treat spastic digestive conditions like chronic irritable colon, spastic constipation, mucous colitis, and abdominal pain triggered by muscle spasms.
Standard Adult Dose: 1 capsule taken 2 times a day (once in the morning and once in the evening).
Sustained Release Advantage: Because it is a sustained-release capsule, it only needs to be taken twice a day instead of three times a day like standard tablets, providing continuous, long-lasting relief.
Note: This medication is not recommended for children or adolescents under the age of 18.
Take this capsule approximately 20 minutes before a meal (one before breakfast and one before dinner). Taking it before eating prevents the spasms that are usually triggered by food.
Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Do not chew, crush, or open the capsule, as breaking it will destroy the sustained-release mechanism and cause the medicine to release into your body all at once.
If you miss a dose, skip it completely and take your next capsule at its regular scheduled time. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.
Meverine SR is generally very well-tolerated, and side effects are uncommon. However, some minor reactions can include:
Mild skin rash, redness, or itchy hives.
Slight dizziness, lightheadedness, or mild nausea.
Headache or dry mouth.
