AH 400mg Tablet is an oral, broad-spectrum antiparasitic (anti-worm) medication manufactured by Drug International Ltd.
Treatment of Intestinal Worm Infections: Prescribed as a highly effective cure for single or mixed parasitic infestations, including roundworms (Ascaris), hookworms (Ancylostoma, Necator), pinworms/threadworms (Enterobius), and whipworms (Trichuris).
Management of Deeper Parasitic Infections: Used to treat more complex systemic infections, such as tapeworm infections (Taenia), Strongyloides, Giardiasis, and hydatid disease (Echinococcus larvae localized in organs).
For Common Intestinal Worms (Roundworm, Hookworm, Pinworm, Whipworm):
Adults and Children over 2 years of age: Exactly 1 tablet (400mg) taken as a single, one-time dose.
For Tapeworms or Strongyloidiasis:
Adults and Children over 2 years of age: 1 tablet (400mg) taken once daily for 3 consecutive days. If follow-up tests show the infection isn't fully cleared after 3 weeks, a second course may be prescribed.
Note: AH 400mg tablets are not recommended for infants under 1 year of age, and a reduced dose (typically via oral suspension) is used for children aged 1 to 2 years.
AH 400mg is formulated as a chewable tablet.
For common intestinal worms, it can be taken with or without food. However, for systemic or deeper tissue infections (like tapeworm or hydatid disease), it should be taken with a fatty meal to significantly improve how well the drug is absorbed into the bloodstream.
Pregnancy Safety Warning: Albendazole can cause severe harm to an unborn baby.
For the standard single-dose treatment, side effects are rare and mild. However, they can include:
Mild stomach discomfort, bloating, or nausea.
Headache or brief dizziness.
Temporary changes in liver enzyme levels (more common with prolonged, high-dose treatments for systemic infections).
Very rarely, temporary and reversible hair loss (alopecia) with long-term therapy cycles.
