QTP XR 200mg Tablet contains Quetiapine (200 mg) in an Extended-Release (XR) formulation. It belongs to the class of atypical antipsychotics. By modulating the activity of dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain, it restores chemical balance, helps stabilize severe mood swings, and clarifies thought processes.
Treatment of schizophrenia (managing symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized thinking)
Acute treatment and maintenance of bipolar disorder (controlling both manic highs and depressive episodes)
Add-on treatment for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) when standard antidepressants do not provide full relief
Adults: The exact dose varies significantly depending on the condition being treated (ranging from 50 mg up to 300 mg or 800 mg daily). A 200 mg strength is often utilized during the upward dose titration phase or as a maintenance dose. It is typically taken once daily in the evening.
Administration: Must be swallowed whole with water. Do not chew, crush, or break extended-release tablets, as this destroys the slow-release mechanism. Take without food or with a very light meal (at least 1 hour before a full meal).
Use strictly as prescribed. Never alter your dose or stop taking this medication abruptly without consulting your doctor.
Somnolence (excessive sleepiness or drowsiness) and fatigue
Dizziness and a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing up (orthostatic hypotension)
Dry mouth, increased appetite, and weight gain
Constipation or mild stomach upset
Critical Safety Warning: This medication can significantly impair concentration and reaction times; avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Stand up very slowly from sitting or lying down to prevent dizziness or fainting. Avoid all alcohol, as it drastically amplifies drowsiness. Immediately contact your doctor if you experience sudden mood changes, worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, or signs of a rare, severe condition called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (characterized by high fever, severe muscle rigidity, and confusion).
