Fusid Plus 40mg+50mg is a high-strength combination diuretic tablet containing Furosemide (40 mg) and Spironolactone (50 mg). Furosemide is a rapid-acting, potent loop diuretic that causes the kidneys to excrete excess water and sodium, which naturally prompts potassium loss. Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic that blocks the hormone aldosterone, encouraging fluid clearance while retaining potassium to shield the body from dangerous electrolyte drops.
Treatment of severe fluid retention and swelling (edema or fluid accumulation in the abdomen, known as ascites) linked to congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or kidney disease
Management of resistant essential hypertension (high blood pressure) when standard combinations fail
Control of excess fluid load driven by secondary hyperaldosteronism
Adults: The dosage is highly customized by a physician based on the severity of fluid retention. The standard starting dose is typically 1 to 2 tablets daily, adjusted according to weight change and electrolyte response.
Administration: Can be taken with or without food. It is highly recommended to take this medication in the morning with breakfast to avoid sleep disturbances from increased nighttime urination.
Use strictly as prescribed. This medication is generally not suitable for children.
Dehydration and shifts in electrolyte levels (such as low sodium or high potassium)
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or low blood pressure (especially when standing up too quickly)
Headache, drowsiness, or mild gastrointestinal cramps and diarrhea
Hormonal fluctuations due to the spironolactone component, potentially leading to breast tenderness/enlargement in men (gynaecomastia) or menstrual irregularities in women
Critical Safety Warning: Do not use this medication if you suffer from complete inability to urinate (anuria), severe kidney failure, Addison's disease, or pre-existing high blood potassium levels. Let your doctor know if you are taking ACE inhibitors or potassium supplements, as mixing these can trigger dangerously high potassium concentrations in your blood (hyperkalemia). Always rise slowly from a sitting or lying position to reduce fainting risks.
