Bacmax 10mg Tablet is an oral, centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant and antispastic medication manufactured by Drug International Ltd.
Relief of Chronic Spasticity: Indicated to treat muscle stiffness, tightness, and involuntary spasms caused by neurological conditions like Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Spinal Cord Diseases and Injuries: Prescribed to relieve severe flexor spasms, concomitant pain, clonus (repeated, rhythmic muscle contractions), and muscular rigidity resulting from spinal cord lesions, trauma, tumors, or infections.
Cerebral Origin Spasticity: Used to manage spastic symptoms arising from cerebrovascular accidents (stroke), cerebral palsy, meningitis, or degenerative brain diseases.
Adults and Children over 10 years of age:
The initial starting dose is usually 5mg taken 3 times daily (preferably with or after food).
To minimize side effects like daytime drowsiness, a doctor will typically titrate (increase) the dose gradually every 3 days based on your individual response (e.g., to 10mg 3 times daily, then 15mg 3 times daily).
Children under 10 years of age: Treatment is carefully calculated by weight and age under medical supervision, usually initiated at 2.5mg given 4 times daily.
Kidney Impairment: Patients with compromised renal function require significantly lower starting doses (often 5mg per day or every other day) as the drug is cleared unchanged by the kidneys.
Take this medication exactly as directed by your physician. It is highly recommended to take Bacmax with or immediately after a meal or a glass of milk to prevent gastric irritation.
Do Not Stop Suddenly: Never abruptly discontinue taking Bacmax.
Avoid Central Nervous System Depressants: Do not consume alcohol, sleeping pills, or opioid pain medications while taking Bacmax, as it can cause a dangerous synergistic effect, leading to extreme sedation and respiratory depression (shallow breathing).
Alertness Warning: Because this medication commonly causes sedation and dizziness, do not drive, cycle, or operate heavy machinery until you are completely sure how this drug affects your personal level of alertness.
Most side effects occur at the beginning of treatment or when doses are increased too quickly, and they usually fade as your body adjusts:
Transient drowsiness, daytime sedation, weakness, or fatigue.
Dizziness, confusion, lightheadedness, or brief headaches.
Nausea (experienced by approximately 10% of users), constipation, dry mouth, or mild stomach upset.
Increased urinary frequency or a temporary inability to fully empty the bladder (acute urinary retention).
Psychiatric Warning: Patients with a history of epilepsy, schizophrenia, or depression must be monitored closely, as baclofen can occasionally lower the seizure threshold or temporarily exacerbate underlying psychiatric symptoms.
