Losardil 100mg/25mg Tablet is a maximum-strength oral combination blood pressure medication formulated for robust management of severe or resistant hypertension. It combines two highly effective active ingredients in a single tablet: Losartan Potassium (100mg), an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) that prevents blood vessels from constricting, and a higher dose of Hydrochlorothiazide (25mg), a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that coordinates with the kidneys to flush out excess water and salt. By simultaneously dilating blood vessels and lowering fluid volume, this maximum combination strength provides aggressive blood pressure control.
Treatment of Hypertension: Prescribed to lower blood pressure in adults whose hypertension is not sufficiently controlled on lower-dose combinations or single-ingredient therapies.
Stroke Risk Reduction: Indicated to reduce the long-term risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy (enlargement of the heart wall).
Standard Adult Maintenance Dose: 1 tablet taken once daily.
Maximum Strength: This 100mg/25mg tablet represents the standard maximum clinical daily dose for this specific combination. It is typically prescribed after a patient has been progressively titrated up from lower-dose alternatives (such as 50mg/12.5mg or 100mg/12.5mg) without achieving target blood pressure.
Take this tablet once daily at the same time every day, exactly as directed by your physician.
It can be swallowed whole with a full glass of water with or without food.
Crucial Timing Tip: Because this tablet contains an increased dose of a diuretic (25mg), it will significantly increase urination. It is highly recommended to take your dose in the morning to prevent disrupted sleep from overnight bathroom trips.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one. Do not take two tablets to make up for a missed one.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or spinning sensations (vertigo), particularly when rising quickly from a seated position.
Increased frequency and volume of urination.
Fatigue, mild weakness, or headache.
Electrolyte imbalances (such as low potassium or low sodium), which can cause muscle cramps or a dry mouth.
Upper respiratory congestion or a mild dry cough.
Pregnancy and Fetal Harm: This medication is strictly contraindicated during pregnancy. Discontinue the drug immediately if pregnancy occurs. Exposure to ARBs during the second and third trimesters can cause severe, fatal injury, kidney failure, and skeletal deformities in the developing fetus.
Sulfa Allergy Warning: Hydrochlorothiazide is a sulfonamide derivative. Do not take this medication if you have a known history of severe allergic reactions to sulfa-containing drugs.
Electrolyte & Kidney Monitoring: Due to the higher 25mg diuretic dose, your doctor will perform mandatory routine blood tests to monitor your kidney function and serum electrolytes (especially potassium, sodium, and magnesium).
Dehydration & Low Blood Pressure: Excessive sweating, severe diarrhea, or vomiting can lead to dangerous fluid loss, causing a sudden, sharp drop in blood pressure (hypotension). Stay properly hydrated and report prolonged illnesses to your doctor.
Blood Sugar & Uric Acid: Thiazide diuretics can raise blood glucose levels (requiring closer tracking for diabetic patients) and elevate uric acid levels, which can trigger painful gout flare-ups in susceptible individuals.
Store the tablets below 30°C in a dry environment, protected from moisture, direct heat, and safely out of reach of children.
