Losardil 100mg Tablet is an oral prescription medication belonging to the class of Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs).
Treatment of Hypertension: Primarily prescribed to lower high blood pressure in adults, either alone or in combination with other blood pressure medications (such as thiazide diuretics).
Renal Protection in Type 2 Diabetes: Indicated to delay the progression of kidney disease in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes who present with proteinuria (excess protein in the urine).
Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: Prescribed to reduce the long-term risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (enlargement of the heart's main pumping chamber).
Standard Adult Maintenance Dose: 50mg to 100mg taken once daily.
Special Populations: Patients over 75 years old or those with a history of liver (hepatic) impairment or volume depletion may be started on a lower initial dose (typically 25mg to 50mg) before moving up to the 100mg tablet.
Take this tablet once daily at the same time every day, with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular timing. Do not take a double dose.
Keep taking this medication even if you feel completely fine.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or vertigo (especially when standing up quickly).
Nasal congestion, cough, or minor upper respiratory tract irritation.
Mild fatigue, tiredness, or weakness.
Occasional nausea, abdominal pain, or mild diarrhea.
Fetal Toxicity (Pregnancy Warning): Losardil is strictly contraindicated during pregnancy.
Hyperkalemia (High Potassium Levels): This medicine can increase potassium levels in your blood. Avoid using potassium supplements, potassium-sparing water pills (diuretics), or salt substitutes containing potassium unless carefully monitored by your doctor.
Kidney and Liver Monitoring: Periodic blood tests to check your kidney function and serum electrolytes are necessary, especially if you have a pre-existing history of renal impairment or liver cirrhosis.
Hypotension Caution: Significant drops in blood pressure (hypotension) may occur if you are severely dehydrated or taking high-dose diuretics.
Store the tablets below 30°C in a dry environment, protected from light, moisture, and safely out of reach of children.
