Description & Uses

• Active Ingredient: Clarithromycin (250mg).
• What it does: It is a macrolide antibiotic. It works by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, which inhibits microsomal protein synthesis and stops the bacteria from growing and replicating.
• Prescribed for: Treatment of mild-to-moderate bacterial infections, including lower and upper respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis, mild pneumonia, sinusitis, and tonsillitis), skin and soft tissue infections, and acute middle ear infections in children. It is also used as part of a multi-drug regimen to eliminate Helicobacter pylori in peptic ulcer disease.

Dosage & Administration

• Standard Regimen: For adults and children over 12 years of age, the usual dosage is 1 tablet (250mg) taken twice daily (every 12 hours). For severe infections, your doctor may increase the dose to 500mg twice daily. The standard course of treatment typically lasts 7 to 14 days.
• Important Rules: It can be taken with or without food. Try to take your doses at consistent times every day to keep a steady concentration of the medicine in your body.
• Complete the Full Course: Even if you start feeling better after a few days, you must finish the entire course of treatment prescribed by your doctor to ensure the infection is completely cleared and to prevent antibiotic resistance.

Contraindications & Warnings

• When NOT to use: Do not take this medication if you are allergic to clarithromycin, erythromycin, or any other macrolide antibiotics.
• Dangerous Drug Interactions: Clarithromycin can seriously interfere with other medications.
