QTP 25mg Tablet contains Quetiapine (25 mg) in an immediate-release formulation. It belongs to a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It works by restoring the balance of certain natural neurotransmitters (dopamine and serotonin) in the brain, which helps stabilize mood, improve concentration, and reduce erratic thought patterns.
Treatment of schizophrenia (managing symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized thinking)
Treatment of bipolar disorder (controlling acute manic highs and bipolar depressive lows)
Often utilized as a low initial starting dose to help patients acclimatize to the medication before gradually increasing to a higher therapeutic maintenance dose
Adults: The dosage is highly individualized. For conditions like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, therapy often begins with 25 mg taken twice daily, with the dose gradually increased by the doctor over several days.
Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with water. Unlike the extended-release (XR) versions, this immediate-release tablet can generally be taken with or without food.
Use strictly as prescribed. Never alter your dose or stop taking this medication abruptly without consulting your physician.
Somnolence (excessive sleepiness or drowsiness) and fatigue
Dizziness and a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing up (orthostatic hypotension)
Dry mouth, constipation, or mild stomach upset
Increased appetite and potential weight gain
Critical Safety Warning: This medication can significantly impair concentration and reaction times; avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery until you know how it affects you. Stand up very slowly from sitting or lying down to prevent fainting or falls. Avoid all alcohol, as it drastically amplifies drowsiness. Immediately contact your doctor if you experience sudden mood changes, worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, or signs of a rare, severe condition called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (characterized by high fever, severe muscle rigidity, and confusion).
