Linarol-M 2.5mg+500mg Tablet is a highly effective, dual-action oral antidiabetic combination medication formulated to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It combines two complementary blood sugar-lowering therapies in a single tablet: Linagliptin (2.5mg), a DPP-4 inhibitor that boosts natural incretin hormones to stimulate insulin release and reduce liver sugar production, and Metformin Hydrochloride (500mg), a biguanide that improves your body's sensitivity to insulin and decreases glucose absorption in the intestines. Together, they offer superior blood glucose control compared to either medication alone.
Management of Type 2 Diabetes: Used alongside a structured diet and regular exercise to lower blood sugar levels in adults whose diabetes is not adequately controlled on metformin or linagliptin alone.
Combination Enhancement: Prescribed to help patients meet their target HbA1c goals through multi-pathway glycemic control.
Standard Starting Dose: Usually 1 tablet taken twice daily, though your doctor will customize the dosage based on your current treatment regimen and blood glucose levels.
Maximum Dose: The maximum recommended daily dose is typically 5mg of linagliptin and 2000mg of metformin (which equals two 2.5mg+1000mg tablets daily).
Take this tablet twice daily with meals (usually with breakfast and dinner). Taking it with food is highly important as it significantly reduces the chance of mild stomach upset or nausea commonly associated with metformin.
Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, split, or dissolve it.
Consistency is key; take your doses at the same times every day to keep a steady level of medicine in your body.
Gastrointestinal issues like nausea, vomiting, mild diarrhea, stomach ache, or a temporary metallic taste in the mouth (especially when first starting).
Nasopharyngitis (stuffy or runny nose, sore throat).
Mild headache.
Minor muscle or joint pain.
Lactic Acidosis Risk: Metformin can rarely cause a rare but highly serious condition called lactic acidosis (a buildup of acid in the blood), particularly in individuals with severe kidney or liver disease. Seek immediate emergency medical care if you experience deep/rapid breathing, severe muscle cramps, extreme fatigue, unusual sleepiness, or a sudden slow/irregular heartbeat.
Kidney Function Monitoring: Because metformin is cleared by the kidneys, your doctor will check your kidney function via blood tests before starting and at least once a year during treatment. It is not recommended for individuals with severe kidney failure.
Pancreatitis Alert: Stop taking this medicine and notify your healthcare provider immediately if you experience persistent, severe abdominal pain that radiates through to your back, as this can be a sign of acute pancreatitis.
Alcohol Consumption: Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking Linarol-M, as alcohol significantly increases the risk of both lactic acidosis and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Pregnancy and Lactation: This medication is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding; insulin is typically preferred. Consult your doctor immediately if you plan to become pregnant.
