Leroid 50mcg Tablet is a synthetic thyroid hormone medication used to replace or supplement thyroid hormone levels in the body. It contains Levothyroxine Sodium as its active ingredient, which functions identically to the natural T4 thyroxine hormone produced by the human thyroid gland. This medication helps restore normal energy levels, regulate metabolism, and balance essential bodily functions in individuals with an underactive thyroid.
Treatment of Hypothyroidism: Replacement therapy for an underactive thyroid gland that does not produce enough natural hormone.
Thyroid Suppressive Therapy: Management of specific types of thyroid disorders, goiter (enlarged thyroid gland), or following thyroid cancer management under strict medical guidance.
Adults: The standard initial dose often starts between 25mcg to 50mcg once daily, adjusted gradually by a healthcare professional based on regular blood tests (TSH levels).
Elderly or patients with heart conditions: Usually started at a lower initial dose (12.5mcg to 25mcg) to safely monitor tolerance.
Children: Dose is determined strictly by weight and age under the guidance of a pediatric endocrinologist.
Take this tablet once daily on an empty stomach, exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
It must be taken 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast with a full glass of water to ensure proper absorption into the body.
Do not take this medication within 4 hours of taking calcium supplements, iron supplements, antacids, or eating soy products, as these can severely block its absorption.
Therapy is usually long-term or lifelong; do not stop taking this medication abruptly even if you feel completely well.
(Side effects are generally rare if the dosage is correct, but can resemble an overactive thyroid if the dose is too high):
Headache or nervousness.
Increased sweating, heat intolerance, or flushing.
Mild muscle weakness or tremors.
Minor changes in appetite or weight loss.
Do not use for weight loss: This medication is not a weight-control supplement. Using it for obesity management in individuals with normal thyroid function is dangerous and ineffective.
Cardiovascular Risks: Use with extreme caution and inform your doctor immediately if you have a history of heart disease, chest pain (angina), high blood pressure, or irregular heartbeats.
Pregnancy and Lactation: Thyroid hormone requirements often increase during pregnancy. Regular monitoring is essential, and it is safe to use under strict medical supervision.
Store safely in its original packaging in a cool, dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
