LINAROL-M 2.5MG+850MG TABLET

Description

Linarol-M 2.5mg+850mg Tablet is an oral combination antidiabetic medication designed to provide comprehensive blood sugar management for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It features a dual-action formula containing two distinct active ingredients: Linagliptin (2.5mg) and Metformin Hydrochloride (850mg). Linagliptin works as a DPP-4 inhibitor, which prolongs the activity of natural incretin hormones to boost insulin release and decrease sugar production by the liver. Metformin works simultaneously as a biguanide to lower the amount of glucose absorbed from your food and improve your body's cellular sensitivity to insulin.

Uses

  • Management of Type 2 Diabetes: Prescribed alongside a healthy diet and regular physical exercise to improve glycemic control in patients whose blood sugar is not adequately managed by metformin or linagliptin monotherapy alone.

  • Glycemic Stabilization: Used to lower HbA1c levels and reduce the long-term risks associated with uncontrolled diabetes, such as nerve damage, kidney issues, and cardiovascular complications.

Typical Dose

  • Standard Adult Dose: Typically 1 tablet taken twice daily.

  • Individualized Adjustment: Your physician will determine your exact daily dose based on your current treatment plan, target blood glucose levels, and kidney function. The dose is gradually stepped up or down based on clinical results.

How to Take

  • Take this tablet twice daily with your meals (usually with breakfast and dinner). Taking it with food significantly reduces the likelihood of stomach upset, nausea, or cramping commonly caused by metformin.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, split, or dissolve it, as this can affect how the body absorbs the active ingredients.

  • Maintain a regular schedule and take your doses at the same times each day. If you miss a dose, take it with food as soon as you remember; if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take a double dose.

Common Side Effects

  • Gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, mild diarrhea, abdominal bloating, loss of appetite, or a temporary metallic taste in the mouth (these usually subside within a few weeks).

  • Nasopharyngitis (stuffy or runny nose, sore throat).

  • Mild headache or muscle pain.

  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), particularly if this medication is used in combination with other active therapies like insulin or sulfonylureas.

Important Warnings

  • Lactic Acidosis Risk: Metformin carries a strict warning for a rare but highly serious medical emergency called lactic acidosis (an acid buildup in the bloodstream). This risk is increased by severe kidney disease, heavy alcohol consumption, severe dehydration, or liver impairment. Seek emergency medical attention immediately if you experience rapid breathing, deep muscle weakness, severe stomach pain, extreme fatigue, or an irregular heartbeat.

  • Kidney Function Checks: Because metformin is filtered out of the body by the kidneys, your doctor will check your kidney health via standard blood tests (eGFR) before prescribing this drug and at least once a year during treatment. It is completely contraindicated in individuals with severe kidney failure.

  • Pancreatitis Alert: Stop taking this medication and call your doctor right away if you experience sudden, severe, and persistent abdominal pain that radiates through to your back, as this can be a sign of acute pancreatitis.

  • Surgical and X-ray Procedures: If you are scheduled for a major surgery, or an imaging scan (like a CT scan) that requires iodinated contrast dye, you may need to temporarily pause taking Linarol-M. Your doctor will advise you when to stop and when it is safe to restart.

  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: This drug is generally not recommended during pregnancy or while nursing. If you plan to become pregnant, speak to your doctor about transitioning to a safer blood sugar management plan, such as insulin.

  • Store the tablets below 30°C in a dry place, completely protected from moisture, direct heat, and safely away from children.
