Mepogest 5mg Tablet is a lower-dose oral hormonal medication containing Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (5mg) as its active ingredient. It is a synthetic form of progesterone, a natural female sex hormone responsible for regulating the monthly menstrual cycle and maintaining a stable uterine environment. Mepogest works by balancing the effects of estrogen on the uterine lining, helping to restore a healthy menstrual rhythm, prevent excessive tissue growth, and control irregular bleeding patterns.
Treatment of Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding: Prescribed to control and stop heavy, irregular, or prolonged vaginal bleeding caused by hormonal imbalances.
Management of Secondary Amenorrhea: Used to restart regular menstrual cycles and induce a period (withdrawal bleeding) in women whose periods have stopped for consecutive months.
Endometrial Hyperplasia Prevention: Used as part of combination Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) in postmenopausal women to prevent the overgrowth of the uterine lining caused by estrogen-only treatments.
Mild Endometriosis Relief: Helps suppress the painful growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus.
For Irregular Bleeding or Absent Periods: Commonly 5mg to 10mg taken once daily for 5 to 10 days, usually initiated during the second half of a calculated menstrual cycle (e.g., starting on Day 16).
For Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): Typically 5mg daily taken concurrently with estrogen on specified days of a monthly cycle (often Days 1 through 12 or 14 through 25).
Note: Your doctor will determine the exact number of days you need to take this medication based on your specific condition.
Take this tablet at the same time every day, exactly for the number of days prescribed by your doctor.
It can be taken with or without food and should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
If you are taking this to regulate your period, expect withdrawal bleeding (similar to a normal menstrual period) to begin 3 to 7 days after you finish your last tablet of the course.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed tablet. Do not take two doses at once to make up for a missed one.
