Azimex 250mg Tablet is an oral, broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic manufactured by Drug International Ltd.
Upper Respiratory Tract Infections: Prescribed for acute bacterial sinusitis, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis (often used as a safe alternative for patients allergic to penicillin).
Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Indicated for bacterial bronchitis and mild-to-moderate community-acquired pneumonia.
Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Treats uncomplicated skin infections caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Used to treat non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis specifically caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.
Typhoid Fever:
Standard Adult 5-Day Regimen: The most frequent clinical regimen using the 250mg tablet is 500mg (two 250mg tablets) taken on Day 1, followed by 250mg (one tablet) once daily on Days 2 through 5.
Standard Adult 3-Day Regimen: Alternatively, doctors may prescribe 500mg (two 250mg tablets) taken once daily for 3 consecutive days.
For Chlamydia STIs: A single, large oral dose of 1g (four 250mg tablets taken all at once) is standard.
Pediatric Dosing (Children over 6 months old): Calculated strictly by weight at 10mg/kg once daily for 3 days.
Take this tablet at a fixed time every day to ensure a steady level of the antibiotic remains in your tissue throughout your treatment.
While it can be taken with or without food, taking it one hour before or two hours after a meal maximizes its absorption into your system.
Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.
Antacid Interaction: Avoid taking antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours before or after taking your tablet, as they heavily block the antibiotic from absorbing properly.
Complete the Entire Course: Never stop taking this medication early, even if you start to feel completely better after a few days.
Azimex is typically very well-tolerated.
Mild diarrhea or loose stools.
Nausea, vomiting, or stomach discomfort (cramping and bloating).
Flatulence (excessive gas) or temporary indigestion.
Brief headache or mild dizziness.
Critical Safety Warning: Discontinue use and contact emergency medical services immediately if you develop any signs of a severe drug allergy, including a widespread itchy skin rash, hives, swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, or immediate breathing difficulties.
