Active Ingredient: Ibuprofen (300mg) in a sustained-release (SR) pellet formulation.
What it does: It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that blocks cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes to reduce the production of prostaglandins, which are responsible for pain, swelling, and fever.
Prescribed for: Long-term relief of pain and inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Also used for backaches, muscular pain, menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea), and migraines.
Standard Regimen: Typically 1 capsule (300mg) taken twice daily (morning and night). For acute or severe pain, a doctor may increase this up to a maximum of 4 capsules (1200mg) within a 24-hour period.
Important Rules: Take with food or a glass of milk to prevent severe stomach irritation. Swallow the capsule whole; do not chew, crush, or open it, as this destroys the sustained-release pellets.
Age Limit: Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
Pregnancy Contraindication: Do not use during the third trimester of pregnancy, as it can cause serious cardiovascular complications in the unborn baby.
Stomach upset, heartburn, nausea, bloating, and mild dizziness.
Interaction Alert: Avoid taking indigestion remedies (antacids) within 2 hours of your dose. Do not take with other NSAIDs or blood thinners (like Warfarin) as it drastically increases your risk of internal bleeding.
Critical Warning: Discontinue use immediately and see a doctor if you experience severe abdominal pain, black or tarry stools, vomiting blood, or sudden shortness of breath.
