Monocard 20mg Tablet is an oral prescription cardiac medication used to manage and prevent heart-related chest pain.
Prevention of Angina Pectoris: Indicated for the long-term prevention and management of chest pain or discomfort caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle (coronary artery disease).
Crucial Note: Monocard has a slow onset of action and is strictly a preventive medication.
Standard Adult Dosing: The typical starting dose is 1 tablet (20mg) taken twice daily.
The Asymmetric Schedule: To prevent your body from building a tolerance to the medicine (which makes it stop working effectively), the two daily doses are usually spaced 7 hours apart rather than a full 12 hours.
Alternative Titration: In some clinical situations, your doctor may direct a lower starting dose, such as half a tablet (10mg), before transitioning to the full maintenance dosage.
Take this tablet strictly according to the specific hour schedule advised by your physician to prevent nitrate tolerance.
It can be taken with or without food, swallowed completely whole with a full glass of water.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if your next scheduled dose is coming up quickly, skip the missed tablet and continue with your regular asymmetric routine. Do not double the dose.
Avoid standing up too quickly from a sitting or lying position, as this medication can cause a sudden temporary drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness.
Nitrate Headaches: Mild to moderate headaches are very common when first starting this medication, indicating that the drug is actively widening blood vessels. These typically lessen or disappear after a few days of continuous use and can be managed with standard over-the-counter pain relievers if approved by your doctor.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or tiredness.
Flushing (a sudden feeling of warmth, redness, or tingling in the face, neck, or chest).
Mild nausea, abdominal discomfort, or a temporary drop in blood pressure.
